Katie the CrossFit Champion

For a spotlight today, I’m featuring Katie Teixeira, one of the strongest and most inspiring people I know, both in terms of fitness and as a person!

She graduated from Boston University with me and studied Human Physiology. She does CrossFit regularly! We were lab partners in Systems Physiology our sophomore year and we had this lab at 8 AM and I was so impressed because she would come to lab already having worked out at CrossFit!

“I’ve been doing CrossFit for almost 4 years now. My dad first introduced me to it and I was immediately hooked. What I love about CrossFit is that every day and every workout is so different! One day can be all body weight movements or gymnastics movements or Olympic lifting or a combination of all three! I never get bored!

If you are thinking about starting CrossFit, but are intimidated, don’t be! Every single movement in a workout is adaptable to your skill level. When I started CrossFit, I could only lift the bar. Now I can lift upwards of my body weight! It takes patience but it’s so worth it.

I typically go to the gym 4 or 5 days each week. I look at the CrossFit main site and either do the workout as prescribed or I modify it for my school gym (for example, substituting movements or changing from a barbell to a dumbbell). After a workout, I’m always super hungry so I usually eat a Perfect Bar, especially if I have to run to class after.

CrossFit isn’t only great for the workouts, but for the people as well. The CrossFit community is so supportive and uplifting. The ideology isn’t just about fitness; it’s also about nutrition, stress management, and being your best self.”
